IMPHAL, June 16 (Newmai):Manipur chief minister, N Biren Singh met Prime Minister Narendra Modi to apprise him about the political crisis within the ruling BJP-led coalition government in the state. Singh also discussed the grim financial situation of Manipur after the RBI banned on withdrawal regarding Manipur government’s bank accounts. The state is currently facing an overdraft of Rs 274.46 crore.
Singh reportedly met the Prime Minister after the NITI Aayog’s fifth governing council meeting held there on Saturday. The chief minister who is currently camping in the national capital along with some ministers and MLAs had already met some of the national leaders of the party. Among others, he also met Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman, defence minister Rajnath Singh, BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav on Saturday.
During the meetings, the chief minister apprised them about the crisis within the ruling party after many MLAs demanded his ouster. He discussed on ways and means to cope with the financial crunch being facing by the state after the RBI banned on all payments from Manipur government accounts, according to the sources. Biren is also planning to meet Amit Shah who is now the Union home minister.
Meanwhile, some ministers and MLAs of the ruling BJP who were camping in Delhi are now back in Imphal on Sunday.
