Manipur Technical University win Hackathon ‘19

GUWAHATI, Sept 10:Assam Science and Technology University (ASTU) organised the 1st Northeast Hackathon in association with Startup Assam. The event was funded from the TEQIP- III program of Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India.The Northeast Hackathon-2019 competition was organised for all students across Northeast India in focus sectors pertinent to the region like Textile and Handloom, Tourism, Water Management, Energy, Environment and Sustainability, Food Technology.

The students submitted presentation in the form of Business plan of the idea or project in different emerging technologies for a sustainable product or service. The two-day grand event also consisted of Workshops, Competitions, Brainstorming & Expert training sessions etc. to develop the problem-solving approach through designing, thinking & understanding the startup culture with newer insights and emerging technological innovations.

Over 90 teams and 500 participants took part in the event where MTU KANGLEITRONIC, a team comprising of five students from Manipur Technical University (MTU), was declared the winner of the competition. The team presented a business plan on “Solar Power Cold Storage cum food dryer.”

A team of participants from Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati (IIT-G) and Girijananda Chowdhury Institute of Management & Technology, Guwahati were awarded second and third prize, respectively. In the allied category of prizes, the first prize winner team, MTU KANGLEITRONIC, was also declared the best disciplined team.

The teams 3nergy G@ng and Harbingers of Assam Engineering College, Guwahati were awarded in the category of best presenter and all-women team, respectively. Ankita Kumari of Jorhat Engineering College was also awarded as the youngest presenter.

The Honourable Vice-Chancellor of Assam Science and Technology University, Prof. (Dr.) Dhiraj Bora, conveyed his gratitude to all the teams across the Northeast. In a statement he expressed, “We are glad to have overwhelming response from the teams of the entire Northeast. We are very much excited having wide participation and efforts will be made to take this Hackathon to the international level covering the South Asian countries particularly, in future endeavours”.
