IMPHAL, Aug 17 (Newmai): As there is no issuance of the official order from the government in connection with the ‘understanding reached’ on Thursday, agitation is likely to continue.

On Thursday, the agitating “Manipur University community” had said they would suspend their agitation after seeing official order of the government with regard to the “understanding reached” between the state government and the former.

Manipur University Students Union (MUSU), Manipur University Teachers Association (MUTA) and Manipur University Staffs Association (MUSA) said they did not receive any official order from the government till this evening.

Speaking to media persons in the protest site at Manipur University today, Ng Nimai, spokesperson of MUTA , said that they will continue their agitation as long as they do not get the official order.

Vice Chancellor, A P Pandey’s leave will be completed on August 30. “What will be his position after his leave period is over?” asked Ng Nimai.

An “understanding” was reached yesterday between the agitators and the government after three days of meeting with the members of Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD), Government of India in the presence of the chief minister and the council of ministers, MLAs, the chief secretary and the commissioner (Higher and Technical Education).

It was agreed upon that the two official members in the existing Fact Finding Committee would be replaced by a retired Vice Chancellor of a university who is mutually acceptable to the parties concerned.

The meeting also agreed upon that the relevant order for the Fact Finding Committee as an independent enquiry committee will be issued on or before August 17, 2018.

It was also agreed upon that, during the period of inquiry and until follow up action taken on the inquiry report by the competent authority preferably within a period of 15 days Prof. A. P. Pandey will be on leave.

The meeting further agreed upon that the copies of enquiry report will be made available to MUSU, MUTA and MUSA while the Registrar of the university shall be the nodal officer for the enquiry committee.

However, the ‘Manipur University community’ had stated on Thursday that, any of the points of memorandum of agreement if it is found deleted or omitted in the official order, then the agitation will continue.

Under the banner of the Manipur University Students Union (MUSU), Manipur University Teachers Association (MUTA) and Manipur University Staffs Association (MUSA), agitation has been going on since May 30 demanding the removal of Prof A P Pandey as the Vice Chancellor of Manipur University.
