IMPHAL, June 23 (Newmai): The Assam Rifles claimed on Saturday that the Moreh Battalion of 26 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) apprehended an active cadre of the banned outfit, People Liberation Army (PLA), from Ganesh Gate near International Gate No 2, Moreh, Tengnoupal district of Manipur on June 21. The cadre is identified as “Sergeant” Nilachandra alias Kshretimayam Singh, 38 years, a resident of Imphal West. After initial interrogation the individual was later handed over to Moreh Police for further investigation, the Assam Rifles said.
The Assam Rifles also claimed that the Tengnoupal Battalion of 26 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) recovered a total of 3000 WY tablets in two separate incidents.
On June 22 at around 5:30 pm, based on specific information received regarding movement of contraband drugs from Moreh towards Imphal, a silver coloured Maruti van bearing Regd No MN 02 B0919 was stopped for checking at PVCP, Khudengthabi, Tengnoupal district. While frisking and carrying out through checking of baggage, 1000 WY tablets were found hidden in a plastic bag full of chillies. Approximate cost of the contraband drug is Rs 5 lakh. The apprehendee, Lalramchuani, 39 years, d/o Late Lalhminglien, a resident Zion Veng, New Lamka, Churachandpur district along with recovered item has been handed over to Moreh Police Station, the Assam Rifles claimed.
In yet another incident on Saturday, at around 11 am, a blue coloured Maruti Eeco van bearing Regd No MN 01S 0216 was stopped for checking at Permanent Vehicle Check Post, Khudengthabi. While frisking and carrying out through checking of baggage, 2000 WIY tablets were found hidden inside both socks of one of the passengers. Approximate cost of the contraband drug is Rs 10 lakhs. The apprehendee, Thenkholun Baite, 54 years, s/o Late Paojang Baite, a resident of Yangoulen, Khengjoi, Chandel district along with recovered item is being handed over to Moreh Police Station, the Assam Rifles further said.
