GUWAHATI, Sept 12:Unidentified assailants shot dead a man at Kumarpara near Athgaon area in the capital city on Thursday evening. According to the report, a group of four to five miscreants fired at the cashier of Jagadamba Iron and Steel Industries Pvt Ltd from point-blank range.The injured person identified as Shyam Sharma was admitted in Marwari Maternity Hospitals in Athgaon and was later referred to Apollo Hospitals, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Senior police officials have rushed to the spot to take the stock of the situation. The police have picked up a person in this connection. A relative of the deceased person said that five persons came and fired at him from point-blank range.
“Five persons came here and asked some employees about Shyam Sharma (owner of the shop). When the employees said that the owner was not there, they entered inside and asked for the cashier (whose name was also Shyam Sharma). When the cashier said that he is Shyam Sharma, the miscreants fired at him. They fled the scene soon after the firing,” the relative said.
Guwahati city joint commissioner of police Devraj Upadhyaya said, “During preliminary investigation, we have reason to believe that they are hired killers. Everything will be clear after thorough investigation.” The police have also recovered a bag from the spot.
