DIPHU, July 13: Manja Local Sand & Stone Suppliers Union (MLSSSU) has called for indefinite closure of supply of sand and stone from July 13, MLSSSU President Bhim Terang informed here on Friday.
Addressing a press conference held here on Friday Terang said the supply was stopped in protest against the hike in the price of sand from the existing Rs 22 per CFT to `Rs 66 per CFT. Terang said the ban in lifting of sand will continue until those who come to pick up the sand, particularly from Nagaland agrees to pay the rate as demanded.
Terang also informed that sand marauders at Lahorijan in Dimapur and Dhansiri have also shut down their mahals. The MLSSU alleged that there was no uniform rate of the sand which causes loss to the suppliers as well as buyers. The organisation also urged sand suppliers to register their names with the union.
The Union appealed to the marauders as well as truck owners to support the cause of the organisation.
