MORIGAON, Aug 18: The principal of a missionary-run school in Morigoan was arrested on Friday for not hoisting the national flag on the Independence Day.

James Xavier (34), principal of Saint Eugene School, was arrested following complaints that the school did not organise the flag hoisting ceremony on Independence Day, i.e. August 15. As per reports, the missionary-run school, from kindergarten to class six, has over 250 students.

A case was registered on Friday under Section 2 of the Prevention of Insult to National Honour (Amendment) Act 2005. However, the principal was released on bail by a local court on Saturday.

Xavier admitted that it was a mistake on his part by not hoisting the Tricolour. He will be again questioned on August 19.
