Hailakandi, Aug 18: Measles Rubella vaccination campaign has begun in Hailakandi district
The campaign has started as per the micro plan without any ceremonial launch in the wake of passing away of former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee during which the entire nation will be in a state of mourning for seven days till August 22.
ANW, ASHA workers, supervisors and other health functionaries have fanned out to different parts of the district to vaccinate school children with MR.
Vaccination has begun in MV, ME, LP, Madrassa and High Schools in government as well as private across the district. “The two-week campaign will cover altogether 1,486 schools as per the micro plan,”‘ said Pritom Roy, Vaccine and Cold Chain Manager, eVin Project, UNDP.
Along with vaccination, awareness campaigns are also going on in different parts of the district. There is little resistance in the minority concentrated areas, thanks to the roping in of the Muslim clerics by the district administration and health authorities. Deputy Commissioner Adil Khan had a meeting with the religious leaders from the minority community and appealed to them to extend support to the vaccination campaign to meet the target of vaccination of over 2.16 lakh children in the age group of nine months and 15 years in the district. The religious leaders were convinced by the health authorities about the safety and efficacy of the MR vaccine in eliminating Measles and Rubella viruses and in boosting the immune system of the children. Later, the religious leaders pledged support to the campaign and assured that they would convince the people of their community to send their children for vaccination.
