GUWAHATI, May 20: Former Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) chief and Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) president Hagrama Mohilary has expressed concern over Governor Jagdish Mukhi’s visit to Kokrajhar and holding series of meeting with officials and representatives of 29 organisations.
Mukhi visited Kokrajhar on Tuesday and held a meeting with senior officials of BTC to review implementation of various welfare and development schemes. Mukhi also interacted with the representatives of 29 social organisations during his visit.
It was the first trip of Mukhi to BTAD after the council was dissolved and brought under Governor’s Rule.
Hagrama Mohilary-led BTC was dissolved after expiry of the term of the council on April 27 and since then the administration was brought under the Governor.
“The restrictions imposed by the Union government due to COVID-19 lockdown should be equal for all and no one should violate it,” Mohilary said in a tweet on Wednesday.
“By visiting Kokrajhar on Tuesday, Hon’ble Governor of Assam Jagdish Mukhi has violated the lockdown guidelines issued by Ministry of Home Affairs. While according to the MHA guidelines persons above 65 years of age are advised to stay home, the Governor, who is above the age of 65, not only visited Kokrajhar, but also invited 29 people from socio-political organisations. This is a clear violation of social distancing norms,” Mohilary said.
“We request the MHA to define the guidelines clearly and clarify who to be held responsible in case if something goes wrong,” he said.
Meanwhile, Rajya Sabha MP senior BPF leader Biswajit Daimary has written to Union home secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla seeking clarifications on Mukhi’s visit to Kokrajhar to meet the representatives of several organisations on Tuesday amid the ongoing lockdown restrictions to control COVID-19 pandemic.
In his letter, Daimary said, “His Excellency Governor of Assam is above 65 years old as appeared in his biodata and accordingly above 65 years old age is not allowed to move outside home other than medical ground and meeting essential requirements as issued guidelines of MHA whether it is violation of MHA guideline or not.”
He also expressed concern over social distancing norms as the Governor held a meeting with 29 political and social organisations.
“On the other hand meeting with 29 numbers of party, Organisations, and different Committees is also a difficult to maintaining of social distance as well as follow of the guideline of MHA in maintaining of the social distance,” Daimary questioned.
He also stated that the movement of the Governor and meeting with 29 groups within an hour is very much danger during this situation.
