GUWAHATI, Sept 11: The Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) has conferred national award to Assam State Rural Livelihoods Mission (ASRLM) for outstanding performance under Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana (DAY-NRLM) in the category of institutional building and capacity building.
The award was presented by Union minister for rural development, Narendra Singh Tomar to ASRLM mission director Nandita Hazarika in a ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on Tuesday.
The secretary to department of rural development Amarjeet Sinha and joint secretary (RL) & CEO DAY-NRLM Atal Dulloo, ASRLM project managers Dr. Rousy K. Baruah and Khagen Dutta were also present in the function.
Meanwhile, an ASRLM press release here said the Centrally-sponsored DAY-NRLM has made remarkable progress in the state in the last years. More than 2 lakh self help groups (SHGs) and their higher level federations like village organisations (VOs) and cluster level federations (CLFs) have also been formed under the ASRLM. All these community-based organisations have been provided with sufficient trainings and capacity building programmes by ASRLM nurturing them to be self-sustaining institutions, getting engaged in sustainable livelihoods and thereby become the catalyst of overall socio-economic development of rural development, the release added.
