NE Book Fair to begin from Nov 4

GUWAHATI, Oct 3: The 19th North East Book Fair, 2017 organised by All Assam Publishers & Booksellers Association will begin at Assam Engineering Institute playground in Guwahati from November 3 to 14.  This edition of the book fair has been dedicated in memory of eminent dramatist Arun Sarma and journalist Radhika Mohan Bhagawati, organising committee president Ajit Kumar Barman and secretary Dhiraj Goswami told reporters here on Tuesday.

The stage of the book fair has been dedicated in the memory of the eminent actor and producer of Kohinoor Theatre Ratan Lahkar and the eminent film personality Abdul Majid, they said. The auditorium has been dedicated in memory of publisher and book seller late Haricharan Bhattacharya, Tapan Saraswati, Jites Bhuyan and Dipak Kalita, while the meeting hall has been dedicated in the memory of former secretary of the association Pabitra Lahkar.

The Book Fair will be formally inaugurated by the eminent writer Dr. Nagen Saikia. The inaugural ceremony will also be graced by noted film actor Victor Banerjee, National Book Trust (NBT) chairman Baldev Bhai Sarma, vice chairman of Penguin Random House Nandan Jha, Publishers’ Guild (Kolkata) secretary Tridip Chatterjee and eminent publisher of Bangladesh Majhar Islam.

Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal has also been invited as the chief guest of the inaugural function. An interaction programme with Victor Banerjee has been arranged from 7 pm on the day.

“A good number of renowned publishers from all over the country has already confirmed their participation in the book fair. The notable publishers are from Bangladesh, Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Ludhiana, Siliguri, Hyderabad, Agartala, Guwahati and other places of Assam,” they also said.

On November 4, the birth centenary Dr. Hitendra Kr. Barua, Ambikapada Devchoudhury, Mayaram Tamuli, Gobinda Ch. Poira, Mahesh Dev Goswami, Tilak Das, Aashu Deb, Umesh Devchoudhury, Pratap Ch. Choudhury, M. Ibrahim Ali, Himanga Biswas and Satya Prasad Barua will be observed.

An Interaction programme with the famous youth writer of fame Navoneel Chakraborty has been arranged from 7 pm on November 4. Earthen lamps would be lighted in the book fair ground on the occasion of death anniversary of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika on November 5.
