Haflong, Feb 2: Newly-elected members of autonomous council (MACs) of North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) will take oath during the first session of the 12the NCHAC here on Monday, official sources informed here Saturday.
On the other hand, the elections to the chairman of the council will be held on February 6. The notification for the elections will be issued on February 4 with February 5 as the last date of filing nomination for it.
Dima Hasao deputy commissioner Amitabh Rajkhowa will be the protem speaker in the session, sources said.
In a notification issued here on Saturday, Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi authorised DC Amitabh Rajkhowa to preside over the first session of the council, for oath/affirmation and election to the chairman of the council in pursuance of Rule 24 and Rule 32 of the Assam Autonomous District (constitution of District Council) Rules 1951.
The oath taking ceremony will be held at Cultural Institute Hall here at 12 pm. The notification for election to the chairman will be issued at 1 pm.
The candidates have to file their nomination before the secretary (legislative) on or before 12 of February 5. The election will be conducted from 12 pm of February 5 and the results will be announced on the same day.
The BJP swept the polls by winning 19 of the 28 seats in the NCHAC where elections were held on January 19.
The Congress bagged two seats while the AGP managed a solitary seat. The remaining six seats went to independent candidates.
The BJP had drawn a blank in the 2013 NCHAC elections while the Congress and Independent candidates had won 10 seats each. But 17 elected members, including some from the Congress, had defected to the BJP.
