NH blockade hits BTAD for 2nd day

Kokrajhar, May 3: The indefinite National Highway blockade call given by three influential Bodo organisations – All Bodo Students Union (ABSU),National Democratic Front of Boroland-Progressive (NDFB-P) and People’s Joint Action Committee for Boroland Movement (PJACBM) continued in BTAD for the second day on Thursday.

Thursday’s blockade was staged at Kajalgaon in Chirang from 5 am. The blockade affected surface communication in BTAD and its adjoining areas along the 31C National Highway. Hundreds of vehicles were stranded at various places of the highway due to the blockade.

The three organisations have called for the blockade demanding early creation of Bodoland state under Article 2 of the constitution of India. They also demanded resumption of tripartite talks with the Union government on the statehood issue.

The three organisations also reiterated their demand on granting ST(Hills) status to the Bodos living in Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao.

Thousands of protestors with banner, placards sat on the National Highway and shouted slogans like “we want Bodoland”, “No Bodoland no rest”, “Divide Assam 50/50” and demanded early creation of Bodoland state.

However, emergency services like the movement of ambulance, NRC official, military vehicle were exempted from the purview of the blockade.

ABSU president Promod Boro, BTC MCLA Rwngwra Narzary, leaders of Bodo Sahitya Sabha, Bodo Harimu Afad, Boro Somaj, NDFB-P, PJACBM took part in the programme.

Notably, the Bodo organisations have announced a series of agitational programme, including National Highway blockade, railway blockade, chakka bandh and hunger strike in support of their demand.
