KOKRAJHAR, Dec 5: The Bodo Sahitya Sabha observed Khontai Saan (Kavitar Divosh) on the occasion of the second death anniversary of poet Brajendra Kumar Brahma, former president of Bodo Sahitya Sabha and Tagore award winner on Sunday with a day-long programme scheduled in Kokrajhar.

The programme was organised jointly by Kokrajhar district committee of Bodo Sahitya Sabha and Dotma primary Bodo Sahitya Sabha at Chalani Batabari (Longabangi) Samadgistall in Kokrajhar.

Late Brahma was the former president of Bodo Sahitya Sabha, a Sahitya Akademi awardee and Tagore literary award winner, who had contributed a lot towards the uplift and development of the Bodo literary and language.

President of Kokrajhar district committee of Bodo Sahitya Sabha, Baneswar Basumatary hoisted the sabha flag and paid homage to the late Brahma. Secretary of Bodo Sahitya Sabha Jwngsar Narzary, several other authors, as well as poets from different places of Kokrajhar district attended the event and offered floral tributes to late Brahma.

A poet’s meet was also organised on the occasion to mark the observation where nearly 100 senior, budding poets from different places participated and recited their self-composed poems.

Sahitya Akademi award winner and retired principal of Kokrajhar Govt College, Dr Surath Narzary inaugurated the poet’s meet which was chaired by Baneswar Basumatary.

Notably, Brajendra Kumar Brahma died on December 5, 2019 after a prolonged illness.

Basumatary said that the Sahitya Sabha is taking steps to keep alive the ideology and philosophy of the great poet, who had contributed a lot towards the uplift and development of Bodo language and literature in the Bodo community.
He said that the Bodo Sahitya Sabha is initiating to make healthy upliftment and development of the Samadhishtall of late Brahma in days to come. He has urged the BTR government for a well-equipped development at the Samadhistall of the late Brahma in recognition of the contribution and literary creations.

Assam cabinet minister and ex-MP Urkhao Gwra Brahma paid his tribute to one of the luminaries in the world of Bodo literature on his punya tithi.

He said that the former president of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha had also received the prestigious Rabindra Nath Tagore literary award besides being a well known poet across the state.

Brahma said that Brajendra Kumar Brahma was a person who had authored many books in Bodo language and contributed a lot towards the uplift of the Bodo literary world.

He recalled contributions of the noted poet who had authored many books and contributed articles in many languages throughout his life.

Son of poet Brajendra Kumar Brahma, Ripunjay Brahma inaugurated the floral tribute to the late Brahma.
Members from several organisations including ABSU, ABWWF, Tribal Sangha, Bodo Writers Academy, All Bodo Primary Teachers Association thronged at the observation and offered floral tribute to the great poet.
