T Kikkin nominated for Outer Manipur seat ** Meghalaya kick-boxer enters poll ring
SHILLONG, March 15: The National People’s Party on Friday announced that former Union minister Agatha K Sangma and T Kikkin will be the party candidates for the Tura Lok Sabha seat in Meghalaya and Outer Manipur parliamentary constituency respectively.
Releasing the first list of candidates, the party named Ferlene C A Sangma as candidate for the by-election to Selsella Assembly seat in Meghalaya’s West Garo Hills district.
NPP national president and Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma chaired the meeting of the central election committee of the party in Delhi which was attended by party leaders from various states in the NE region.
“The central election committee of the NPP which had met today received applications for Tura and outer Manipur seats. The committee has decided to declare the names of two candidates – former union minister Agatha K Sangma and former Manipur minister T Kipkin,” the NPP president said in a video statement.
He said Kikkin is a former minister and is the NPP Manipur unit president. Election to the Tura Lok Sabha seat and by-election to the Selsella Assembly constituency will be held on April 11.
AMKA Prez to contest from Shillong
Meanwhile, the president of the All Meghalaya Kick-boxing Association (AMKA), Samuel Hashah has decided to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections as an independent candidate from the Shillong parliamentary seat.
Samuel Hashah, kick boxer who has represented the state earlier, has coached around 200 girls and 300 boys in the field of kick-boxing.
“I have decided to contest the LS polls from Shillong seat as an independent candidate,” Hashah told reporters here on Friday.
Appealing the people of Khasi and Jaintia Hills region to vote for him, Hashah said that if elected he would protest Citizenship Amendment Bill and demand the immediate implementation of the Inner Line Permit system to check influx and illegal immigrants.
He also said that there was a need to resolve the inter-state border dispute with Assam and problems faced by the people residing along the international border with Bangladesh. Lok Sabha elections for Meghalaya will be held on April 11.
