NSCN (I-M) issues advisory to private hostels & tuition teachers

Dimapur, Aug 30: The rampant practice of “unreasonable & unacceptable conditions applied by unfair lots in the name of running private hostels & tuitions for the students”, has come under the scanner of NSCN (I-M), the organization has laid down certain dos & don’ts for responsible teachers.

The ministry of Killo(Home) affairs of the organisation has observed that many hostels that are supposed to provide basic necessities to the students do not meet the required room space, some of which are overcrowded and lack required numbers of bathrooms/toilets negating basic hygienic principles & electrical lightings and that there are hostels without warden, proper rules & regulations & administration which ought to be checked to avoid any liable consequences. Communique issued by MIP, NSCN (I-M) has stated that it has also observed that teachers in many cases charge exorbitant fees of Rs. 3000 to 4000 for private tuitions rendering students from poor families helpless, while getting only 2 to 3 classes in a week.

Stating that with this “business like practice & daylight robbery” in the eyes of the people, the fate of students hangs in uncertainty & despairThe secretary, ministry of Kilo affairs of the organisation has instructed that any hostel meant for the students should provide basic necessities for the overall development of the students. The directive has also stated that hostels should be isolated from crowded areas to avoid unwanted disturbances.

Further, to relieve the distress of students who are unable to take tuition due to exorbitant fees demanded by teachers, the NSCN (IM) has directed teachers to charge a maximum of Rs 500 per subject while taking tuition from classroom, and Rs 800 per subject for home tuition. The NSCN (I-M) MIP has also conveyed a caution note that anyone found violating this instruction shall be viewed seriously.
