DIMAPUR, Aug 6 (Newmai): The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) with its federating and sub-ordinate units will be carrying out the ‘1st Phase’ of exercise as measures to prevent influx of illegal immigrants in Nagaland. The NSF said that its move is necessitated by taking into consideration the publication of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam.
“In order to segregate the genuine Indian citizens from the illegal immigrants, student volunteers will be assigned to verify the documents of the non-locals at any time and at any place, and for which the Inner Line Permit (ILP) holders are directed to carry along with them their ILP and other relevant documents like electorate ID card and Aadhar card, etc.,” the NSF directed.
In the process of verification of ILP and other related documents, the defaulters who are not able to produce the documents will be considered as Illegal Immigrants and the defaulters will be handed over to the district administration and police or will be dealt with stern action as deem fit by the student unions.
“Through this statement, the student body would like to make its stand clear that, this exercise is being carried out to identify and weed out the Illegal Immigrants and no genuine citizens of the country will be harassed in the process of the verification, so long as the person is able to produce the documents,” the NSF added.
The NSF then appealed upon the district administration and law enforcing agencies to extend their assistance and service as and when required by the student unions and its volunteers. The NSF also requested the general public to support and extend co-operation to the student unions and its volunteers as the current issue/threat is a common concern faced by the public.
