MANGALDAI, Dec 19: Inspector Mosco Saikia (48), officer in charge of Mangaldai Police Station passed away on late Saturday night at GMCH due to cardiac arrest. According to the attending doctor of Mangaldai Civil Hospital, the police officer was brought to the hospital from the police station with some chest pain and discomfort around 6 pm. Following some emergency medication, he was immediately shifted to GMCH along with a nursing staff and his condition was stable during the journey. After nearly one and half hours of reaching GMCH, he was shifted to the ICU. However, around 3 am he was declared dead due to cardiac arrest. A sub inspector of Assam Police 2000 batch, Saikia earned popularity among local people everywhere he served. He joined Mangaldai Police Station as its officer in charge on July 3, 2020 and like in other localities, here too he earned public support within a very short span of service. Saikia who hailed from Borigaon village of Kaliabor in Nagaon district was also known for his talent in acting and drama. Officers and staff of Darrang Police and people of the district bade adieu to the departed soul of late Saikia when his body arrived at Mangaldai Police Station and police reserve here on Sunday noon. Saikia’s death cast a pall of gloom in Mangaldai. He is survived by his mother, wife and two children. His untimely demise has been deeply mourned by various organisations of the district. Mayukh Goswami, secy, Mangaldai Media Circle, senior journalist of the district Bhargab Kumar Das, MLA Basanta Das and the rank and file of the Assam Police across the state expressed grief over the incident.
