Exploration of hydrocarbon in Dhansiri Reserve Forest
DIPHU, Nov 24: A memorandum of understanding was signed between Oil India Limited (OIL) and Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) here on Wednesday at the Conference Hall of the Old Secretariat building for exploration of hydrocarbon in Dhansiri Reserve Forest of Karbi Anglong by OIL.
The agreement is for two years and can be extended depending on the commitment of the two parties. The MoU was signed by the principal secretary of KAAC, Mukul Kumar Saikia on behalf of KAAC, and on behalf of OIL the MoU was signed by executive director (Basin manager – Shelf), Dr. Manas Kumar Sharma. The area of operation is 396 Sq km.
OIL was represented by executive director (Basin manager- Shelf), Dr. Manas Kr. Sharma, retired executive director (Frontier Basin) Indrajit Barua, chief general manager & HOD (Frontier Basin) Ajit Barua, general manager & Block manager, Khanin Buragohain, DGM (Frontier Basin), Gautam Hazarika and manager (Legal) Ranjit Das.
While KAAC was represented by chief executive member (CEM), Dr. Tuliram Ronghang, MP Horensing Bey, MLAs Bidyasing Engleng, Dorsing Ronghang and Rupsing Teron and executive members of KAAC and members of Autonomous Council.
CEM of KAAC, Ronghang informing media persons said, “An MoU has been signed between KAAC and OIL for undertaking exploration of hydrocarbons from Dhansiri area. OIL will start their work within two or three days. KAAC will give an advertisement on the number of men needed and how many jobs will be created at the start of exploration.”
He also said the private land that will go into the oil exploration will be compensated. OIL will credit the compensation money into KAAC account and KAAC will dispatch the compensation to private landowners. OIL will deposit revenue with KAAC on the forest land taken for oil exploration. OIL has assured that necessary taxes will also be given to the KAAC. KAAC will receive monthly revenue of Rs. 5 crores, totalling Rs. 60 crores annually.
Executive director (Basin manager, Shelf) of OIL, Dr. Manas Kr. Sharma informed that during the recent survey for exploration activities two locations have been identified, one Timung village and another in Dhansiri Reserve Forest. The first location development has started and the CEM of KAAC has been requested to process the formalities to start operation.
Regarding the exploration in Reserve Forest, he said there is a laid down process and the concerned Forest Department is processing it. The company is awaiting the approval of the Forest department.
The executive director of OIL requested the cooperation of Council members for the expedition of formalities saying that the company has a strict timeline.
He also said if the exploration is successful it will bring a lot of development in Karbi Anglong.
