DIPHU, Aug 20:Expressing solidarity to 3,000 lower primary school teachers for non-receipt of salaries, Karbi Employees Association (KEA) urged Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) to find out a solution to the impasse as the teachers have decided to go for pen down from September 1.
In a joint meeting on August 17, the LP school teachers of Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong districts under the banner of Karbi Anglong Primary Teachers Association (KAPTA) will go for pen down strike from September 1 if the government fails to release their salaries within August 30.
The teachers also decided to boycott the Teacher’s Day function if the authorities fail to release their salaries within the stipulated timeframe.
As many as 3,000 LP school teachers and employees of 30 government departments have not received their salaries from May, this year as the government could not complete the official procedure for making online payment of salaries to them. The state government has decided to pay their salaries through online.
In a statement here on Tuesday, KEA general secretary Dilip Rongpi urged the KAAC authority to make payment salaries through offline till the process for online payment is completed.
“The KAAC authorities should make alternative arrangement for payment of salaries to the teachers through offline till the online system is activated,” the statement said.
