MORIGAON, Aug 12: Nagaon Paper Mill Protection Manch has announced a series of agitation programme demanding release of their pending salaries and revival of the paper mill immediately Nagaon Paper Mill Protection Manch chief convener Atanu Sarma informed here on Sunday.
The organisation will stage a 24-hour hunger strike from August 14 to 15. It will also stage a road blockade on the National Highway at Jagiroad on August 14. The organisation has expressed anguish over the inaction of the Union government for revival of the paper mill even after repeated memorandums to the prime minister and Assam chief minister for several times.
Sarma said the paper mill was one of the profit making industries of the country despite poor infrastructure and communication facilities since its inception in 1998 to 2009.
However, the authorities have closed down the mill in 2016 on account of loss of the industry and since then the employees have not been receiving any salary.
