GUWAHATI, Sept 20: Union minister of consumer affairs, food & public distribution, Ram Vilas Paswan Friday urged all the states for their active participation in creation of new storage capacities by identifying or offering suitable land for construction of godowns so that the production and PDS operations go smoothly in the Northeastern states. Paswan recovered the operations of Food Corporation of India (FCI), computerization of public distribution system (PDS), procurement and other related matters of Northeastern states at Imphal on Friday.
The meeting was attended by Union secretary of ministry of consumer affairs, food & public distribution, Ravikant, FCI chairman-cum managing director DV Prasad and other senior officials of FCI in Northeastern states. Paswan also reviewed the position of storage capacity, its utilisation, allocation under NFSA and lifting of foodgrains. He also directed that depot online system of FCI should be implemented in the entire Northeastern states. The Union minister will also inaugurate the FCI godown at Bishnupur in Imphal on Saturday.
