Dimapur, Aug 11: The People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) government in Nagaland on Saturday affirmed its support to the desire of the Naga people for integration of all contiguous Naga-inhabited areas, which had been passed as resolutions in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly on four occasions.
It appealed to the neighboring states to appreciate the history and democratic rights of the Nagas under a spirit of mutual respect so that we can live together as good neighbours under an environment of harmonious coexistence and brotherhood.
Adopting a six-point resolution at a meeting of its MLAs and coordination committee held at the State Banquet Hall in Kohima, the PDA said it has been supporting this legitimate and democratic right of the people consistently.
The PDA coalition government also reiterated that it will continue to play the role of an active facilitator in the ongoing political negotiations between the government of India and the Naga national political groups. It appealed to the negotiating parties, especially the government of India, to expedite the peace process and respond to the voice of the people by bringing a political solution that is honourable and acceptable to the people at the earliest.
The PDA further reiterated its commitment to pave the way for an alternative arrangement that may arise from the political agreement.
“We urge all sections of Naga society to come together under a spirit of unity and oneness, so that together we strengthen the peace process and create an environment that is congenial for successful conclusion of the ongoing negotiations,” it stated.
The PDA government expressed deep condolences to the members of the families who have lost precious lives and also extended its concern to all the citizens who have been displaced and those facing difficulties in different parts of the state.
It further extended its appreciation to the government of India and the central agencies for their positive response and timely intervention during the time of natural calamities in the state. It also acknowledged the tireless efforts of the entire government machineries in combating the state and all sections of society for extending assistance and support to the efforts of relief and rehabilitation.
