ITANAGAR, March 15: The People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) will go alone in the simultaneous elections for Lok Sabha and Assembly to be held on April 11 and will field candidates in all 60 Assembly and two LS seats of the state.
This was announced by PPA chairman Kameng Ringu on Friday negating the recent announcement of pre-poll alliance with Congress by APCC president Takam Sanjoy.
The PPA chairman stated that the regional outfit would maintain an equal distance from both BJP and Congress. Sanjoy on Tuesday last had announced that Congress and PPA would have a pre-poll alliance in the state. “These two national parties keep on poaching our MLAs. We are afraid of forging any alliance with them,” he said. The PPA chairman also stated that Congress party is undermining them by offering only a few seats for assembly election.
“PPA will contest election in all seats by following our own agenda and policies. We appeal to educated young generation to join our party and fight election for a better and corruption-free Arunachal,” Ringu said.
Ringu also expressed sadness over recent violence in the capital complex. “This was first time that the state capital witnessed such large scale violence. It was sad to see the capital burning. This should not be repeated in future and all political parties should condemn such violence,” he said.
The nomination form will be issued to any prospective candidate who wants to work for the welfare of people and state interest will be given priority. Tainted persons will not be given preference, he disclosed.
Further, the PPA chairman informed that party president Kahfa Bengia and general secretary Kaling Jerang were suspended for one week and a decision will be taken up after that.
Three prospective candidates of PPA, former MLA Nido Povitro from 25 Raga assembly constituency, former MLA Tara Payeng from 23-Taliha assembly constituency and Lowangwang Wangham of Longding district were also present at the press conference.
