UPPL wins 6 seats in BTR, Pramila-Chandan-Rihan taste dust
GUWAHATI, May 3: United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) president and Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) chief Pramod Boro on Monday said he wants a dynamic leader as the next chief minister.
“I have been saying that we want a dynamic leader as the CM. Assam has many problems. A dynamic leader is needed to solve these problems,” Boro said.
He said a decision on the next chief minister will be taken by the BJP’s Parliamentary Board.
“BJP will decide on the CM’s post. BJP is our big brother. It has more authority as a national party. We will not interfere in it,” Boro added.
Pramod Boro-led UPPL won six seats out of eight it had contested in the election while its rival BPF managed to win over four seats across the four districts of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).
“This election was a people’s election and accordingly UPPL won six seats out of 12 seats across four districts of BTR.
Boro expressed his gratitude towards all the voters for giving mandate to his party candidates.
BPF’s three heavy weights Pramila Rani Brahma, Rihan Daimary and Chandan Brahma had to face humiliation defeat in the fight.
UPPL candidate for Sidli, Jayanta Basumatary defeated sitting BPF MLA and three time minister Chandan Brahma while UPPL candidate for Udalguri and BTC deputy chief Gabinda Chandra Basumatary defeated sitting BPF MLA and two time cabinet minister Rihan Daimary.
In Chapaguri LAC, UPPL candidate Urkhao Gwra Brahma defeated his nearest rival BPF candidate Hitesh Basumatary, UPPL candidate for Barama Bhupen Boro defeated BPF candidate Prabin Boro while its candidate for Tamulpur Lehoram Boro won by defeating BPF candidate in the polls.
In Gossaigaon constituency, BPF candidate Majendra Narzary defeated UPPL candidate Somnath Narzary by a margin of 10,291 votes.
In Kokrajhar West, BPF candidate Rabiram Narzary won the seat by defeating UPPL candidate Manaranjan Brahma by a margin of 12,233 votes.
In Mazbat, BPF candidate Charan Boro defeated BJP’s candidate Jitu Kishan.
BPF candidate Durga Das Boro won the Kalaigaon seat defeating BJP candidate Madhuram Deka.
BJP’s Biswajit Daimary won Panery seat defeating BPF candidate Kamala Kanta Swargiary, while Ajay Kumar Roy won Bijni seat defeating sitting BPF MLA Kamal Singh Narzary by a margin of 914 votes.
In Kokrajhar East, UPPL’s Lawrence Islary defeated sitting MLA and two time minister Pramila Rani Brahma.
Islary was former general secretary of All Bodo Students Union (ABSU).
