Guwahati, Sept 18: Assam Governor Banwarilal Purohit attended a function ‘Swagatam Sharat’ which is a part of All India Sangeet and Nritya Utsav organised by Pracheen Kala Kendra, Chandigarh at Rabindra Bhavan in Guwahati on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, Purohit said that Indian art and culture dates back to the ages of puranas. Indian dance and music have got immense importance in worship and spirituality. Imprints of Shiva on dance testifies the significance of dance in our ancient culture. Shiva’s tandav nritya – Nataraja is a depiction of Shiva as the lord of dance and dramatic arts. Purohit said that Indian culture is the most ancient and at the same time very strong because of its deep rooted faith in the essence of religion. He also said that though in the past several attempts were made to disintegrate this composite Indian culture all the attempts were failed because of its strong root. “We are proud of our rich art and culture, on the basis of which we can become Viswa Guru (World Leader), the Governor added.
Highlighting the importance of Folk dance and folk music, he said that these are an integral part of India’s tradition and culture, and its significance is immense. He said that the cultural diversity and rich traditional pattern of Indian society is truly reflected through variety of Indian folk dances. He therefore urged upon the present generation to work for the preservation of our country’s unique identity.
Purohit said that Assam owes a great deal to the teachings of Srimanta Sankardev and Madhavdeva and the culture and people of the state have had the reflections of the teachings of the great vaishnavite saints. The Governor also said that North East is a hub of rich art and culture. Assam along with the other north eastern states has its unique and diverse art and dance forms which mesmerises everyone. He stressed on the need to showcase these rich dance forms in the global arena.
The Governor also wished success to all the students who are associated with music and dance and hoped that everybody would secure a good position in that field.
Lauding the efforts of Pracheen Kala Kendra, the Governor said that the institution is doing a noble work by educating young students in the field of classical music and classical dance.
It may be mentioned that Pracheen Kala Kendra is one of the oldest, premier organizations of the country dedicated to the promotion, preservation and dissemination of Indian classical art as well as imparting quality education, training and conducting examionations in the field of performing and visual arts.
General Secreatary of Pracheen Kala Kendra, Chandigarh Sajal Kocer, Regional Coordinator PK Brahma along with a host of other dignitaries were present in the function.
