DIPHU, May 14: Activists of People for People (PFP) and Karbi Hills Development & Protection Organisation (KHDPO) staged a two day sit-in-demonstration in front of Semson Sing Ingti Memorial Park here to register their protest against alleged corrupt practices indulged by Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) from Tuesday.
Those named by the organisations are: executive engineer of agriculture, Ramsing Hanse; executive engineers Pabitra Engti and Sumit Das and assistant executive engineer Bolin Das, contractors Phukan Konwar and his daughter Elcee Rengma, SM Traders, Ram Awtar Swami and Lorink Timung, son of KAAC chairman Longki Timung, executive member of KAAC, Mangalsing Timung; DMC, SSA, Nayan Pathak, SDO Shiva Prasad Baruah; fishery officer A Rahman, principal of DAV HS School, DD Deka, BDO M Ali, JE BK Gogoi, AROs Jojo Terang and Nilotpal Ronghang, Kishore Choudhury, Mukul Kathar and several others.
The protesters named several government officials and contractors for their alleged involvement in misappropriation of funds meant for development of the hill district. The organisations demanded punishment of public leaders, officials and contractors.
“This is the first day of our two day sit-in-demonstration to expose the massive corruption and anomalies of government fund by elected representatives, government officials and contractors. We demand that strong action should be awarded to them by the authority for their corrupt activities and cheating cases,” PFP president, Longkiri Timung said.
The organisations demanded for a CBI probe into the misuse of funds by KAAC, concrete steps to permanently secure border of Karbi Anglong, to evict illegal settlers of Dhansiri and Daldali Reserve Forests and Langkaijan.
