Provide direct fund from centre: CEM tells Purohit

Donkamokam, Sept 7: Irritated at the present funding pattern, Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) CEM Tuliram Ronghang on Thursday appealed to Governor Banawarilal Purohit for introduction of a new funding system- direct fund from centre to the Autonomous Council for implementation of development projects and schemes in the council areas.

“The present funding system from the centre to the council through the state government is painful. We need direct funding from the centre,” Ronghang told Governor Purohit in a memorandum here on Thursday.

Governor Purohit visited Hamren in West Karbi Anglong district on Thursday to review the progress of various ongoing central projects in the district.

The memorandum also advocated for implementation of Article 244(a) of the Constitution of India for granting an Autonomous State comprising Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao districts. Governor had a patient hearing on the grievances of the officials of the council.

The memorandum also urged the Governor for taking steps for implementation of the memorandum of settlement (MoS) signed with the leaders of United People’s Democratic Solidarity (UPDS) in New Delhi on November 26, 2011 to upgrade the KAAC.

Purohit was given warm welcome by CEM Ronghang; chairman KAAC, Horensing Bey, EMs and MACs and officials of various departments under the council and members of the civil societies.

He was welcomed to the Hamren Circuit House by a cultural troupes of Bihu, Karbis, Tiwas and Garo artistes.

Governor also met members of social organisations. DC Deepak Kr. Baruah and other senior government officials were also present.
