Provide necessary assistances to olders, Nemcha tells NGOs

IMPHAL, Oct 1: Manipur social welfare and co-operation minister Nemcha Kipgen called upon the attention of all the NGOs and stakeholders to lend necessary assistance to those older persons in distress and open doors for them. The Minister made the appeal while observing State Level of International Day of Older Persons 2017 Khunthokhanbi Sanglen, Thangmeiband in Imphal on Sunday.

Minister Nemcha also assured that she will urge the Government to open hospital specially meant for old-aged people. Stressing on the theme of this year “Stepping into the Future: Tapping the Talents, Contributions and Participation of Older Persons in Society”, she highlighted the major contributions of the older persons in moulding our society and enlightening us with the rays of development. Wherever we, as a society stand today, major credit goes to them.

On this occasion, Social Welfare department presented gifts as a token of appreciation to the older persons present at the day’s function.  The event was also attended by Commissioner H Deleep Singh of Social Welfare department, its Director Jacintha Lazarus and Joint Director Surrender A Shishak as functional president President and Guests of Honour respectively.

The International Day for Older Persons, 2017 was also celebrated under the theme ‘Stepping into the Future; Tapping the Talents, Contributions and Participation of Older Person in Society & Education ,‘ at the premises of Regional Rural Training Center Office, Wangbal Thoubal.  Labour & Employment Minister Th Radheshyam Singh, MANIDCO Chairman Dr Y Radheshyam, Singh, Deputy Commissioner L Nabakishwar Singh of Thoubal district, District Supervisors, and older persons from different places attended the observation.There are also reports observing the day at various parts of the state on Sunday.
