Rain affects train traffic in NE

GUWAHATI, Aug 12: Heavy rainfall in the last 20 hours in West Bengal, Bihar, Assam and other NE states has affected movement of trains in many places as rain water has damaged railway tracks at a few places in Katihar and Alipurduar Division of NF Railway, a railway release informed here on Saturday.

While many rivers in Alipurduar Division are in spate, the NF Railway authorities are keeping a close watch and continuously monitoring the situation nearby railway bridges in the entire division and taking all precautionary measures for safe train running.

The rain affected New Coochbehar – Baxirhat section of Alipurduar division, which has been repaired and restored on Friday. Similarly, Samuktala Road, Falakata section in Alipurduar Division, Falakata – Salbari section , Samuktala Up line , New Coochbehar  to MHBA Y Leg, Jalpaiguri – Haldibari section have been restored with speed restriction.

In Katihar Division, Mukuria – Salmari section, Aluabari – Thakurganj section, Panjipara – Kishanganj section, Entire Jogbani station yard have been restored on Saturday evening.

The movement of train at Jogbani – Bathnaha section has been suspended as Jogbani station was inundated by rain water. The train service was also suspended between Bathnaha and Jogbani stations.

While seven of the 12 affected areas were already repaired and the lines certified for train running at controlled speed, in four sections train running are suspended till the situation improves, the release said.

As a result of suspension in Alipurduar Division, eight trains were being run through diverted routes. A total of eight trains had to be short terminated and 13 trains had to be cancelled in Alipurduar Division. In Katihar Division 12 trains were short terminated and 4 trains cancelled.

On the other hand, 55756 Jogbani- Katihar passenger of August 13 will remain cancelled, 55744 Jogbani- Katihar passenger of August 13 will remain cancelled, Train no 07525 of August 13 will remain cancelled between Siliguri Jn and New Bongaigaon. More trains are likely to be cancelled till improvement of the situation, the release added.
