TEZPUR, July 25: Jaychandra Das, a legendary sculptor, creator, painter, lyricist from Tezpur breathed his last on Sunday at Baptist Mission Hospital after suffering from prolonged cardiac problems. He was 68.
Multi-faceted Jaychandra Das was born in 1953 at Tal Kalibari, Tezpur. He started his career in 1969 when he was a student in the ninth standard. His works like Bihu dance form carved in Tribeni Complex, the entrance gate of Mahabhairab Temple, Ganesh Ghat, full-size statue of Lachit Barphukan at Church field, etc. have always been highly appreciated by the viewers. However, the Assam government’s pension holder artist had to pass through a tough time for his poor financial state throughout his life.
Sonitpur DC BC Das, different socio-cultural organisations, media platforms, political leaders, Tezpur Sahitya Sabha, Sonitpur Press Club, JAFA, among others deeply mourned the death of Das.
