DIPHU, Oct 19: Needy families of Diphu town received free rice under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana here. Chief executive member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Ronghang distributed the rice during a ceremonial distribution function held here at Diphu Wholesale Consumers & Marketing Co-operative Society Ltd. Each family member got 5 kg of rice.
The package is a comprehensive relief of Rs. 1.70 lakhs crore for the poor families to help them fight the battle against coronavirus. Under this package 80 crore poor people will get 5 kg wheat or rice free from May to November 2021.
Informing media persons, the CEM said, “In order to help the poor families during this Covid-19 pandemic from 2020 to 2021 the Central government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi has earmarked a budget of Rs. 1.70 crores. Every poor family will get the free rice under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, which is distributed here by Diphu Wholesale Consumers & Marketing Co-operative Society Ltd.”
The programme was attended by executive member (EM) of KAAC, Raju Tisso, Ratan Teron and Kache Rongpipi, MLA Bidyasing Engleng, president of BJP, East Karbi Anglong District Committee, Dhansing Teron and others.
