Hailakandi, Sept 11: As part of Rotary International’s TEACH programme, Rotary Club of Hailakandi took up a slew of initiatives aimed at ensuring total literacy and quality education in the district.
Coinciding with the International Literacy Day on Saturday, Rotary Club of Hailakandi donated desks, benches and study materials to 519 No. Doyamoyee Pathsala as part of its Happy School project. The president of Rotary Club of Hailakandi, Rtn. Harkishore Chanda handed over the items to Head Teacher Monojit Deb and Assistant Teacher Pinak Pani Bhattacharjee and assured to extend all possible support to make the school a Happy School and a premier institution of Hailakandi. Rtn. Shankar Choudhury, Rtn. Pritikona Paul and Rtn. Dr.P.K.Mazumder were also present on the occasion.
Moreover, as part of Rotary’s Wash in School program (WINS), Rotary Club of Hailakandi installed a washing station along with water purifier and toiletries to the Town ME School. Rtn. Harkishore Chanda and Rtn. Shankar Choudhury, president and secretary of the club respectively, handed over the water purifier and toiletries to the Headmistress Babli Sarkar in the presence of other dignitaries.
Rtn.Dr.Mazumder explaned the techniques of hand washing and advised the students to maintain hygiene to keep themselves free from diseases. In the same breath, he pointed out that India Rotary clubs launched one of the world’s largest vaccination campaigns against measles, a major killer disease, and Congenital Rubella Syndrome (CRS) responsible for irreversible birth defects. The campaign aims to vaccinate more than 35 million children in the age group of nine months to 15 years with MR (Measles and Rubella) vaccine. “It demonstrates India’s commitment to improve health and well-being of its people by protecting children against vaccine preventable diseases,” he added.
Rtn. Chanda also advised the students to get immunized with MR vaccine for leading healthy lives.
