GUWAHATI, April 7: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) on April 5 apprehended one thief on charges of stealing the bag of another passenger from the platform of Kamakhya Railway Station.
Moreover, RPF and GRP team of NFR recovered cannabis weighing about 14 kg worth about Rs 98000 from train number 03176 down Kanchanjunga Express at Guwahati Railway Station.
As per information, on receipt of the complaint regarding theft of the bag of a passenger from platform 4 of Kamakhya Railway Station, the RPF team reviewed CCTV footage and identified the suspect. The RPF team along with the owner of the bag immediately launched a manhunt and nabbed the thief from outside the station moving towards the sick/pit line. The person was brought to RPF, post in Kamakhya and on being interrogated, confessed to stealing the bag. All the materials of the bag were later recovered from another bag that the thief had shifted them into.
In another incident, RPF team along with GRP staff of Guwahati conducted a joint drive against carrying of contraband articles in train number 03176 down Kanchanjunga Express on arrival at Guwahati Railway Station during which they detected two ladies in suspicious manner in possession of 3 bags. Upon checking the bags, 10 packets of cannabis weighing 14 kg were recovered.
