Kokrajhar, Aug 10: The All Assam Koch Rajbongshi Sanmilani has warned to boycott the ensuing 72nd Independence on August 15 in protest against atrocities and lathi charge on Koch Rajbongshi people during the rail blockade agitation on August 6 last at Chautara station in Kokrajhar district which left many injured and 18 arrested.
Hundreds of Sanmilani activists and Koch Rajbonghsi people joined hands with banner, placards in the two-hour sit-in-dharna in front of DC office in Kokrajhar on Friday in protest against the atrocities that meted out to the agitators on August 6 at Chautara rail blockade by police personnel and demanded magisterial enquiry into the lathi charge which happened unexpectedly.
The Sanmelani demanded the release of 18 agitators without any condition and suspension of additional SP Kamaal Kumar Gupta. The Sanmilani and AKRSU have been pleading the central and state governments for granting Scheduled Tribe (ST) status since a very long time.
Secretary of the Sanmelani, Ranjit Kumar Roy slammed the government for not initiating good measures while solving the demand and issues of the Koch Rajbongshi community. He has alleged that state government has no any welfare attitude for the Koch Rajbongshis across the state. He has warned to boycott ensuing Independence Day celebration if their demands are not met immediately.
