Bokajan, Aug 4: Security measures have been intensified along Assam-Nagaland border areas ahead the 71st Independence Day celebration in Karbi Anglong.
The police in Khatkhati and Dillai police stations bordering Nagaland have been putting in all efforts to ensure safety and security to the people during Independence day celebrations in two hill districts of Karbi Anglong.
Apart from random frisking and checking vehicular movements at strategic points, the police have been keeping a strict vigil on infiltration routes along the interstate border.
The police are keeping a tab on the vehicular movements in and around the district in the run up to Independence Day. “We have been directed to issue coupons to the highway commuters in all the entry and exit points of the hill district to contain repeated harassment in the check posts along the highway. Any motorist who undergoes police check once is provided a coupon which is to be produced in the next checkpoint to escape unnecessary check”, a senior police official said.
Notably, Bokajan and Khatkhati are turning out be key transit points for drugs and arms trafficking from neighbouring Manipur and Nagaland to other parts of the state. The police have reasons to believe that the extremist organisations might use these points to enter into the district to disrupt the I-Day celebrations. There is also intelligence input that the newly-floated militant outfit-People’s Democratic Council of Karbi Langri (PDCK) is also trying to establish contact inside Karbi Anglong.
