Golaghat, March 15: A sensitization programme on disaster preparedness for people with disabilities and senior citizens was held at the District Library Auditorium here in Golaghat on Wednesday. The programme was organised by the District Disaster Managament Authority in association with the Assam State Disaster Management Authority, various government departments and other stakeholders.
The programme was organized with a view to sensitise the masses about the special needs of PWD and senior citizens and to organize a plan of action for disaster preparedness where they are equally involved and included in the decision-making process.
Addl Deputy Commissioner, Amarjyoti Barman delivering the welcome address said the need to organize such a programme was felt after it was seen that PWD or senior citizens are overlooked during disasters and emergencies and their needs and problems are not adequately addressed.
DPO, DDMA, R Rajkumar gave a brief presentation on disaster preparedness, disaster risk management and post disaster mitigation.
Director, Prerana NGO, Sayera Rahman was the chief resource person for the programme. A team from the Fire and Emergency Services, Golaghat along with SDRF personnel made a demonstration on rescue operation during the programme.
