IMPHAL, Oct 12 (NNN): Some people were injured on Monday as poll related violence continued in Manipur with just a few months to go for the Assembly elections. It is not clear regarding the number of injured people. However, some sources said that at least six people were hurt on Tuesday at a rival party clash.
The injuring of the people was reported in Andro Assembly constituency of Imphal East district on Tuesday, around 11 am.
The injured persons were admitted at JNIMS hospital where they were shifted after administering first aid at a local primary health centre, the sources said.
Three of them sustained bullet injuries, according to sources.
They were allegedly injured after workers of a candidate allegedly fired guns at an election rally of another intending candidate at Andro Assembly constituency.
The report said that a large number of workers and supporters of one candidate marched a rally after an election meeting at Yairipok Yambem to hold another meeting at Ningthounai.
At the same time, another election meeting of another candidate was also held at one of the houses of his workers at Yairipok Yambem.
While the rally was marching on the road near the meeting venue of one candidate, his workers and supporters allegedly attacked the workers and supporters of the rival candidate.
The attack with stones and other deadly weapons following which workers of the rival candidate retaliated resulting in a clash, the sources said.
Some of the workers of one candidate allegedly opened fire some rounds of guns at the workers and supporters of the rival candidate.
A large contingent of police from headquarters of Imphal East and Thoubal districts rushed to the spot and put the situation under control after a brief struggle.
In the melee, three persons were injured with bullets while another three sustained injuries after being hit by stones. Condition of one of the injured persons was stated to be critical. With tension running high, a large number of armed police personnel have been deployed in the area, reports said.
