114 students felicitated for completing skill enhancement courses
UDALGURI/GUWAHATI, March 22: Azure Power, a dedicated solar power company, organised a felicitation ceremony for students for passing skill enhancement courses in tailoring, beautician and basic computer from its Sarbherua Skill Development Centre in Udalguri on Monday. Altogether 114 students were felicitated in the presence of Chandan Borah, general manager, Assam Power Distribution Company Limited, Rangia Zone who graced the occasion as the chief guest. Local dignitaries such as Khwrwmsha Basumatary, president and Raman Brahma, secretary of Sarbha Herua Jwngsar Club and Amar Brahma, president and Bajra Narzary, secretary of the local village were also present during the occasion.
Speaking about the felicitation, Chandan Borah said, “It is amazing to see the contribution of Azure Power in the lives of the local community. The skills being offered at the centre will go a long way in empowering the people and help them lead better lives.” Meanwhile, Sumit Barat, chief sustainability officer, Azure Power, said, “Sustainability at Azure Power not only includes providing clean and affordable energy but also improving the well-being of the communities in a socially responsible way. In line with this commitment, our skill development centres have been empowering the beneficiaries by enhancing their livelihood. This has brought on a significant change in the lives of the passing students that have been a part of our extended Azure family.”
Notably, the company currently runs Skill Development Centres in three other districts of Assam and has provided training to over 500 people. It has also distributed tools of trade such as sewing machines, promoted animal husbandry as well as employed people from the local community at the project sites. The local infrastructure has also been augmented at the villages with initiatives like setting up of streetlights and providing ROs for clean and safe drinking water.
