Hailakandi, Sept 14: All the seven children referred to the Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMC&H) from Katlicherra Block PHC of Hailakandi district have been found unaffected by Measles Rubella (MR) vaccine.
In a report submitted by Professor and In-charge Head of Department of Pediatrics, SMC&H, Dr NN Pathak on Thursday, it was revealed that the students referred to have not been affected due to MR vaccine reaction.. Dr. Pathak, in his report to the Principal cum Chief Superintendent of SMC&H, said he along with another physician treated the seven students admitted on September 8 and 10 and found all the cases unrelated to MR vaccination. One student diagnosed to be affected by acute viral upper respiratory tract infection with gastritis and the other with hypocalcemia due to some underlying pre-existing disease are not related to MR vaccine reaction, Dr. Pathak stated.
All the students of Sahabad ME Madrassa under Katlicherra revenue circle were discharged on Wednesday.
Following the incident at Sahabad ME Madrassa on Saturday, Deputy Commissioner Adil Khan had convened an emergency district task force meeting on MR vaccination campaign (MRVC) with the senior health officials in which future strategies were devised. The meeting decided to impart training to those teachers where MRVC is yet to be carried out. It decided to go in for reorientation of health workers, involving education department in MR vaccination drive, identifying sensitive areas by every BPHC and organising parent-teachers’/ community level meetings as well as extensive campaigns for creating mass awareness on safety and efficacy of MR vaccine. The meeting also decided to involve RBSK personnel for generating awareness on MR among students and teachers.
