HOJAI, June 24: SOS Children’s Village Hojai celebrated SOS Day as a tribute to their founder father, Late Dr. Hermann Gmeiner on Saturday evening with much fanfare. This day is celebrated with great enthusiasm all over the world in all the children’s villages as ‘SOS Day’.
The celebration marked the 99th birth anniversary of Dr. Gmeiner who was instrumental in laying the foundation of SOS Children’s Villages in the world.
The programme began with lighting of the lamp and paying floral tribute in front of the portrait of Dr. Hermann Gmeiner followed by welcome song sung by a group of Village Children.
Welcome speech was delivered by village director Paresh Badyakar. He briefly shared about the philosophy of Dr Gmeiner and his lifelong passion for providing loving and caring home to parentless and abandoned children.
Deputy Commissioner Hojai District Manvendra Pratap Singh,IAS graced the occasion as Chief Guest, Superintendent of Police Ankur Jain,IPS as Guest Of Honour, Child Welfare Comiittee Chairperson Chidananda Nath as Special Invited and Senior Journalist Ramesh Mundra as special guest.
Speaking on the occasion, DC Manvendra Pratap Singh said, “Services given by SOS Children’s Village for humanity are exemplary cannot be compared with anything, it’s truly a loving home to every child.”
Senior journalist Ramesh Mundra was also honoured in the event for his invaluable contribution towards the society with his writings and specially highlighting SOS Children’s Village activities. He was presented a Certificate of Appreciation, SOS citation, gamosa and a bouquet by DC MP Singh.
