GUWAHATI, Aug 6: The Guwahati assistant village director of SOS Children’s Village has been arrested by the city Police for his alleged misconduct against three minor girls who were inmates of the village here.
The police have arrested the assistant village director on August 3 and he was suspended by the SOS Village authorities the same day, according to a release issued by Barnali Das, head of communication of SOS village India.
The 44-year-old Paukha Loon Vaiphei, who hails from Manipur, allegedly molested the three minor girls when he was in a car with them on July 22.
The victim girls had informed the village authorities about the incident, but no action has been taken by them.
But the incident came to light on August 1, when the victim girls narrated the incident to the members of Rotaract Club, which organised a six-day leadership camp in the village and the Rotaract members had informed local journalist about the incident.
The police have registered a case (No – 486/2018) under section 10 of POCSO Act following an FIR lodged by a child rights organisation UTSAH with Azara Police Station on August 2.
Finally, police have arrested the accused official on August 3.
Meanwhile, Barnali Das, head of communication of SOS village India, said in a press release here that it was regrettable that such an act has allegedly been committed by an employee and SOS India would cooperate with the authorities so that justice is delivered to the girls who were aged between 12 and 13 years.
The three girls have recorded their statements before the judicial magistrate first class, Kamrup (Metro).
The Village is providing counselling support to the three girls. SOS Children’s Villages International, the umbrella organisation of which SOS Children’s Villages India is a member, is also closely monitoring the situation through its Regional Office for Asia, the release said.
