Guwahati, Feb 11: To implement the flagship programmes under panchayat and rural development (P & RD) department in Assam more effectively, the department has taken some special initiatives under the diligence of minister of state for panchayat and rural development, Naba Kr. Doley.

The department has attained success in implementation of various schemes with active participation and dedication of the officials from top to bottom.

Due to innovative initiative to solve problems faced by the beneficiaries whose PMAY-G houses are incomplete through home stay at newly constructed PMAY-G houses, the construction of houses under the scheme has risen up from September, 18 onwards and till date 1,35,356 houses have been completed.

Targeting to complete the remaining houses already sanctioned under PMAY-G, a Problem Solving Mela was organised in every development block where minister Doley had participated along with DCs, other senior and field officials of P & RD.

It is hoped that this steps will help to achieve the target of completing houses by March, 2019. On the other hand, steps have been taken to take schemes under MGNREGA in every village of the state so that the needy people, especially the landless casual labour may be benefitted through it by rendering their services in native village itself. All job seekers holding job card will be offered job under MGNREGA in ongoing schemes and steps are being taken to implement new scheme where ongoing schemes are not available. For this, the process of sanctioning new schemes is being expedited.

Those who are willing to work under MGNREGA but not having job card, are requested to apply immediately in their respective Gaon Panchayats, an official source said. Besides paying Old Age Pension, Widow Pension and Divyang Pension under NSAP, Swahid Kushal Konwar Sarbajanin Briddha Pension (SKKSBPA) was launched in 2nd October, 2018 with the state’s own fund. 2 lakh eligible senior citizens are being paid pension under this scheme with effect from October, 2017.

Minister Doley distributed the pension through DBT starting from April, 2018 in a function held in the conference hall of Commissioner at Juripar. Thus 6 lakh senior citizens are availing pension under this scheme as of now. The process of verification of new applications is going and target has been fixed to cover 16 lakh beneficiaries under this scheme by 15 Feb next.
