DONKAMUKAM, May 5: The Sarba Shiksha Abhijan (SSA) will be rechristened as Samagra Shiksa Abhiyan (SSA) soon with the merger of Rashtriya Madhyamik Siksha Abhijan (RMSA) with it, Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) chief executive member (CEM) Tuliram Ronghang said after inaugurating the temporary office of SSA at Donkamukam in West Karbi Anglong on Saturday.
“The SSA will be merged with RMSA soon. The new department will be christened as the Samagra Shiksa Abhiyan (SSA),” Ronghang said.
Stating that the shortage of teachers in schools is a major challenge for quality education in Karbi Anglong, Ronghang said that a special TET would be conducted by the council authorities soon to solve this problem.
“There is a shortage of teachers in Karbi Anglong. A total of 3,000 posts of teachers are lying vacant. It is a big challenge for us. I hope the Special TET will give a solution to it,” the CEM said.
He also assured that the desk and benches made of steel will be supplied for the schools where there is shortage within this fiscal.
The CEM also assured for construction of a permanent office building of district mission coordinator of SSA at Hamren.
In his address, MLA from No 20 Baithalangso, Dr Mansing Rongpi asked the government officials and employees to send their children to government schools instead of private schools.
“I notice that most of the officials and employees prefer to send their children to private run schools. They do not send their children to government schools. It is not good for quality education,” the MLA said.
In the programme, tricycles and a support walking crutch were distributed to the disabled students.
The meeting was presided over by EM for higher education, Jagatsing Engti. The meeting was also attended by EMs Rupsing Teron, Prodip Rongpi, Raju Tisso, Tarendra Brahma, MACs, MS Timung, Prabhat Taro, principal secretary Mahadananda Hazarika and newly appointed DMC of West Karbi Anglong Hakim Rongpi.
Later, the CEM inaugurated a veterinary hospital, officers’ quarter both at Donkamukam, Mugasong Market Shed, a statue of freedom fighter Sahid Major Durga Malla at Mugasong.
