Sonowal reviews the functioning of agri dept
GUWAHATI, May 15: Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Wednesday reviewed the functioning of agriculture department at Brahmaputra State Guest House and instructed the top officials of the department to swiftly implement the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana so that more and more farmers can be covered by the scheme.
He also stressed on the need to create awareness about the scheme and directed the department to take steps to cover 10 thousand farmers by PMKSY within June 20.
During the meeting, the chief minister was apprised by the officials of the department that 5 lakh farmers would be covered by Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana in the state this year. The chief minister said that many farmers were engaged in the production of betel nut, banana etc in the state and he directed for covering these farmers by Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana.
Discussions were also held about Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sanman Nidhi and the officials informed that a total of Rs 235.26 crore had already been provided to the farmers in the state under the scheme. The chief minister said that Rashtriya Krishi Vikash Yojana must be implemented in an extended manner so that more farmers could benefit from it to increase production through adoption of latest technology.
Chief Minister Samagra Grammya Unnyan Yojana also came up for discussion in the meeting. Sonowal directed top officials of Agriculture Department for taking steps before August 15 this year to restart the construction work of Kaziranga Orchid Park and Dima Hasao Horticulture College.
In the meeting, agriculture minister Atul Bora, media and legal advisers also the chief minister Hrishikesh Goswami and Shantanu Bharali, principal secretary of agriculture department Rajesh Prasad, principal secretary to the CM Sanjay Lohia and top officials of the agriculture department were present.
