DIPHU, Aug 10: Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC) and its frontal organisations on Saturday urged the elected representatives from Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao to approach their central leaders to stop the move of the union government for giving Schedule Tribe (Hills) status to Bodos living in three hill districts of Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao.

Opposing the move of the Union government to grant ST (H) status to Bodos, the ASDC said in a press release here on Saturday that the ST (H) status is granted to backward communities like Karbis and Dimasas who are not advanced in respect of political, social and economic front.

“There is no justification to grant ST (H) status to Bodos who are an advanced plain tribe. It would be totally wrong to grant the ST (H) status to Bodos without proper and deep assessment of their political and historical background,” the release said.

“The granting of ST (Hills) status to Bodos will have a wide ranging social, political and economic ramification,” the release added.
