Dimapur, Oct 2: As part of the ongoing ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ launched on Gandhi Jayanti, a cleanliness drive was carried out across Nagaland on Monday.
In his greetings on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Nagaland Governor PB Acharya said in pursuance of Gandhi’s ideas, union government has launched ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ on this occasion to create a ‘Clean India’ of Gandhiji’s dreams of ‘Swachhata Hi Seva Hai’.
He appealed to the people of the State to actively involve themselves in the cleanliness drive. “On this momentous day, let us once again remind ourselves of Gandhiji’s ideals and pledge to work for ‘Swachh Bharat’ so as to create a new India,” the Governor exhorted
He expressed hope that the occasion would guide all towards Gandhiji’s path of truth, non-violence and cleanliness. He also hoped that it would stir up people’s conscience towards universal peace, global unity, true compassion and swachhta (cleanliness).
In a statement issued here, Nagaland chief minister TR Zeliang stated that Gandhi’s ideals have always been a source of inspiration for all over the world. The great leader believed in the principles of non-violence, courage and truth, and played a major role in obtaining freedom from British slavery, he added
Zeliang said Gandhi respected people of all religions including the Nagas who live together in harmony.
He further stated that Gandhi Jayanti is also an event when the world observes as the ‘International Day of Non-Violence.’
“Let us pay tribute meaningfully by emulating his ideals of peace, patriotism, sacrifice and non-violence. Let his life be a message for us all to the change we wish to see in the country,” Zeliang said.
