GUWAHATI, Sept 13: Swachhata Hi Sewa 2019 was ceremonially launched by PHE minister Rihon Daimary at Banga Bhawan in Silchar on Thursday. The event was also attended by environment and forest minister Parimal Suklabaidya, MP Rajdip Roy, MLAs Dilip Kumar Paul, Amarchand Jain, PHED secretary and SBM (G) mission director Dr Siddharth Singh, Cachar deputy commissioner Laya Madduri and other senior government officials. Daimary ceremoniously launched the campaign by lighting the lamp along with other dignitaries.
In his welcome address, Dr Siddharth Singh highlighted on the various activities based on plastic waste management & plastic shramdaan during Swachhata Hi Sewa 2019.
He stated that last year more than 8 lacs citizens participated in SHS 2018 and is hoping that this year more & more citizens will take part in SHS. He showed the items which are single use plastic and said Govt has banned its use long back and we all need to act on it for our own health & environment.
Parimal Suklabaidya, Minister Fishery, Excise, Environment & Forest addressed the gathering and stated that we will have to first make our mind swachhata which will gradually lead to swachhata of surroundings. He stated that cleanliness is a traditional habit imbibed in our culture but today we have forgotten our values & traditions which is posing a threat to our environment.
