IMPHAL, Sept 5: Manipur also celebrated Teacher’s Day on Tuesday. The state level celebration was held in the presence of deputy chief minister Yumnam Joykumar Singh along with education minister Th Radheshyam Singh leading the people to pay floral tribute to the portrait of departed educationist Dr S Radhakrishnan at the auditorium of Manipur State Film Development Society at Konung Mamang in Imphal.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Chief Minister Joykumar expressed his desire to have a better teachers and students relationship as done in the past besides restoring the personality’s development programmes in the educational institutions.
The relationship between teachers and students were encouraging in olden days as there was regular competitions among students besides holding regular social services activities every weekend etc,he said.
Expressing the need to develop a pleasant environment ,he also appreciated the Green School Campaign undertaken in the State besides appealing to take pledge by the teachers and students to teach and learn for a meaningful future.
In his speech Education Minister Radheshyam Singh said what we are today is because of teachers who are the main contributing force that human resource development can be made possible in society. Keeping in view of the role played by the teachers, Government is fully committed to take up some problems including transfer & posting, quarters in remote schools, service extension to the (2 years for) national and (1 year) state awardees.
Lauding the contributions made by private schools in education sector in the State, Radheshyam appealed to all the stakeholders to co-operate with the Government in bringing a major change in the sector in days to come.He said Dhanamanjuri University Bill and other two bills regarding regulations, control and checking of private schools and private coaching/tuition centres will be implemented soon.
Chairman (MANIDCO & MANITRON) Yumnam Radheshyam and Chairman TT Haokip of Hill Areas Committee of Manipur Legislative Assembly also spoke on the occasion. Altogether, 10 teachers were awarded with State Teachers Award and teachers selected for their contributions in Green School Campaign were also felicitated in the function. A book named “Education in Manipur” written by Dr S Jamini Devi was also released in the function which was attended by Principal Secretary Education(S) Vineet Joshi, Commissioner (Higher & Technical Education) H Deleep Singh, teachers and students.There are also observing teachers day at other parts of the state.
