GUWAHATI, June 10: Three teenagers, including a girl jumped into Brahmaputra at Chandrapur in the outskirts of the city on Monday. Till now, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel fished out the bodies of two of the three, search operation is still on for the girl.
The trio has been identified as Ranjan Deka, Bhargab Deka, who were students of Jagiroad College and Trishna Kalita, who was a student of Chandrapur College.
Police said that five students went to Topoban, a picnic spot located in the outskirts of the city on Monday. “However, a girl jumped into the river suddenly. The two other friends also jumped immediately to save her,” an eyewitness said.
“The NDRF has started the rescue operation immediately but could fish out the bodies of Ranjan and Bhargab so far. Search operation is on for Trishna Kalita,” police said. The two other friends, who were also present on the occasion, said that Trishna Kalita jumped into the river first after some altercations with her boyfriend.
“She jumped into the river suddenly. Later, Ranjan and Bhargab also jumped to save her, but none of them knew swimming,” said one of the two students who were present at the site of the incident.
